May marks the final month of Sue Mills’ tenure on the Hall Board of Directors. All of us on the Board will miss Sue’s involvement and leadership terribly. But we are also grateful that Sue has offered to continue helping the Hall as a volunteer, extending her many years of service to the organization and to our community.
It’s difficult to adequately describe the impact Sue has had on the Clinton Community Hall during her 6+ years on the Board. As President for many years, she worked diligently to build an effective and energized board, and laid the groundwork for many of the recent improvements to the Hall.
Sue first got involved with the Hall as a volunteer during Mayfest in 2018. She immediately impressed board members at the time with her effective organizing skills and can-do attitude. Not long after joining the board in 2019, she became board president and had to deal with Covid disruptions. With very little activity happening at the Hall, Sue realized there was an opportunity to rethink ways of doing business and to tackle overdue maintenance. Sue led efforts to paint the exterior of the building, and to paint and improve much of the Hall interior.
She’s personally undertaken countless projects to fix up the interior of the Hall, and has always been ready with a paintbrush, a shovel, or any other tool needed to fix things up.
No project seemed too daunting to Sue, who pushed for and organized a roof replacement fundraising campaign that resulted in a long-overdue new roof for the Hall.
As chair of the Hall Events committee, Sue has overseen our annual Mayfest community celebration, as well as the holiday and summer craft markets. Her attention to detail and exceptional organization abilities have helped streamline planning for these big events, making them successful and enjoyable team efforts.
Dozens of other improvements and initiatives are due to Sue’s love of the Hall, and her deep level of commitment to making the Hall board a rewarding volunteer role can’t be overstated.
While May marks the end of Sue’s board tenure, she will still be helping out at Mayfest on May 17 and then at our Clinton Summer Market on June 28. When you see her at either of these events, be sure to thank her for her many, many contributions to the Clinton Community Hall!
