Contra Dancing April 7

contra dancesContra dancing at the Community Hall is bringing so many new people together to enjoy lively music and stress-free dancing. It’s inter-generational, you’ll find dancers of all ages and experience mixing together and switching partners throughout the evening. Let go of the cares of the world for a few hours and get swept away with the music and joy of dancing with the group.

In case you’re hesitant about trying it out here’s a brief description:

Contra dancing is a form of American folk dance in which the dancers form a set of two parallel lines that run the length of the hall. Each dance consists of a sequence of moves that ends with couples having progressed one position up or down the set. As the sequence is repeated, a couple will eventually dance with every other couple in the set. The sequence of dance moves are taught during the first hour and if you forget a step in the sequence, there’s another dancer nearby to gently point you in the right direction.
