Come and listen to retired volcanologist Wendell Duffield of the U.S. Geological Survey describe his experiences at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) on the Big Island. Duffield was on the HVO staff from 1969 to 1972 and has described those years in the book CHASING LAVA. He follows news of the 2018 eruptions at Kilauea and has posted essays about this action at the Scientific American website. 7 – 9 pm at the Clinton Community Hall – Thursday August 2 Duffield’s book will be available for purchase and signing. Old-Time Troubadour, Dan Levenson, will be giving a concert at 6:30 pm at the Clinton Community Hall. Dan received Arizona Master Artist Award from the SW Folklife Alliance for his lifetime achievements in the tradition of Appalachian Old Time music. A modern-day troubadour, Dan is a full-time musician who travels the country with fiddle and banjo, singing songs and telling stories of the road, his musical journey and his Southern Appalachian roots.   Dan will also be the featured musician at the First Saturday Contra Dance on August 4th!  Join us for great music and dancing.  Dance sponsored by the South Whidbey Contra Dancers and the Clinton Community Hall....

Live music! Lively dancing! Friendly Folks!  All ages welcome. Contra Dancing is a wonderful community event. No experience necessary. Just bring your desire to learn some simple dance steps and be part of the new Whidbey Island Contra Dance movement! New start time: 6:30 pm. A suggested donation of $10 will help pay for the band, the caller, and the hall. Bring a snack to share if you can. During the first half hour the caller will teach the steps you need to know to be right in the swing of the contra dance scene on Whidbey. Organized by Whidbey Island contra dance enthusiasts and co-sponsored by the Clinton Community Hall. Just come on down to the Clinton Community Hall and let’s dance!...
