First Saturday Contra Dance comin’ around again!

Really, if you haven’t tried contra dancing you don’t know what you’re missing. No need to be an accomplished dancer…this is dancing for everyone. The dancing starts at 6 pm with the caller teaching the easy to learn dance figures.

Contra dancing is a folk dance with mixed origins from English country dance, and Scottish and French dance styles. Typically each dance is made up of 2 long lines of couples and led by a  caller who will teach a sequence of figures before the music starts. Couples repeat the dance combinations as they progress up and down the lines. Contra dancing is a social dance that you can attend without a partner.

The live music keeps everyone in step and will feature old-time fiddle, Irish, Scottish and French-Canadian folk tunes.  The monthly dances are organized by the Whidbey Island Contra Dance group and co-sponsored by the Clinton Community Hall. Suggested donation to help pay for the band, the caller and use of the Hall is $10 – 15 per person and you’re invited to bring a snack to share. All ages welcome!

See you all Saturday night with your dancin’ shoes on. Ok, you don’t need special dancing shoes….just come on down to the Hall. It’s great fun!
